Matt started riding the singletrack behind his parents home as a bid for freedom when he was a kid. At 12 he started racing cross country. At 15, Matt found his niche in the DownHill world of riding. Matt still rides his bike to freedom, only now he’s going ridiculously fast down a crazy hill.

Hillary Kirkman, who works at Lizard Skins, tells about an experience she had when she first met Matt at Eurobike 2008. A couple of kids came up to Matt who was hanging around at the Lizard Skins booth. "Mr. Hunter? Could we take a picture with you?" Hillary says it was hilarious hearing someone call him Mr. Hunter. Hillary took the picture so that they could both be in the pic. The kid was shaking like crazy he was so excited. Matt is an idol.
